UGU claim water sabotage to water infrastructure
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
The Ugu District Municipality has roped in the police to investigate a case of sabotage of its water systems.

The municipality says they have had to deal with cases of intimidation and malicious intent to damage municipal infrastructure.
As a result, reservoirs feeding areas like Marburg, Gamalakhe, Shelly Beach, and Ramsgate have been affected.
Spokesperson France Zama says most communities from Hibberdene to Port Edward currently have major water disruptions.
He says criminal elements are trying to undo their efforts to restore water.
“You will recall on Tuesday, we woke up to the news that one of our technician’s vehicles was torched,” Zama said.
“Our technicians who work on the field have been intimidated. Our infrastructure has been damaged where we find most of our closed valves are open, those that is supposed to be open has been closed,” Zama added.
Water tankers are on standby to supply relief water to the affected areas.
