Uber tightens driver protection
Updated | By Shaun Ryan
Uber has extended its commitment to driver-partner protection and is confident recent developments at the 'e-hailing' service will assist in providing reliable, safe and affordable transport.
Uber says it has expanded its strategic collaboration with Chubb Insurance South Africa Limited.
The company says the expansion forms part of its commitment across the Middle East and Africa regions as an important step in addressing some concerns raised by independent partners who rely on the Uber app.
Last year, Uber secured injury protection cover for riders from Chubb for every ride requested on the app. Uber driver-partners and Uber Easts delivery-partners will now benefit from the same cover at no additional cost.
The cover is active from the moment driver-partners accept a trip or delivery request until its completion.
Uber's partnership with RoadCover for riders has also been extended to driver and delivery-partners.
RoadCover provides assistance and legal representation to drivers and other third parties with their submission of claims submitted to the Road Accident Fund at no additional cost.
