Two teens arrested after mutilated body of 15-year-old found in Umlazi

Two teenagers have been taken into custody following the gruesome discovery of the mutilated body of another teenager in Umlazi, south of Durban.

Just after 6am today, members of the community came across the severed head of the 15-year-old boy near a school in F Section.


Police spokesperson, Captain Nqobile Gwala says officers were then called to the scene - when they found the rest of the child's body.


"Investigations at the scene reveal that the boy was taken by unknown suspects just after midnight today. His body was found not far away from where his head was found. The body sustained a gunshot wound," she said. 


Police are yet to determine the motive for the murder.


Gwala says the Umlazi Crime Intelligence, K9 Unit and eThekwini Metro Police joined forces and traced the 18-year-old and 19-year-old suspects to a house in the area.


"They were found in possession of two unlicensed firearms. They are expected to appear in court. Our acting provincial commissioner major general Bhekilanga. He also commended the dedicated team of investigators that worked tirelessly to ensure that those behind the gruesome murder are locked behind bars," she said. 


The pair will appear in the Umlazi Magistrates’ Court soon on charges of murder and possession of an unlicensed firearms.
