Two teen girls drown at Amanzimtoti beach
Updated | By Noxolo Miya
A school excursion to a beach in Amanzimtoti has ended in tragedy.
Two girls drowned on Thursday.
Lifesaving SA's President Dhaya Sewduth says three teenagers were washed out to sea, nearly two kilometres away from where they had been swimming.
"The professional lifeguards employed by eThekwini received the emergency message and they rushed over from their normal duty point which is a distance away and they brought out the three teenage, tried first aid and resuscitation but unfortunately, only one survived and two were declared dead, on the beach."

Sewduth has expressed condolences to the families.
He's urging bathers not two swim in areas without lifeguards.
"We ask that the bathing public or visitors to the beach only go to a beach where lifeguards are on duty and once they are there to only swim between the red and yellow flags that are erected on the beach.
"That indicates that that particular zone is a safer zone where they can actually swim. The bathing public needs to go where lifeguards are on duty."
