Two alleged chocolate thieves shot in Newlands West
Updated | By Jarryd Subroyen
An attempted murder case is being investigated by police after a security guard shot and wounded two suspected chocolate thieves in Newlands West, north of Durban.
Officers say the supermarket owner alerted the guard who gave chase and followed the men onto Loopwest Crescent, off Newlands West Drive, yesterday.
The police's Thulani Zwane says a scuffle broke out leading to gunshots being fired. Both suspects are in hospital.
Zwane says the security guard may be required to present his side of the story in court.
"It is up to him to justify himself in court, because the police could not find any chocolates. It is alleged nothing was found on these two victims. That is why we did not arrest these two victims unless the security guard opens a case against them," Zwane said.
