Netcare 911's Chris Botha says the crash happened at around 6am along the N2 highway.

"We found that a vehicle with three occupants had veered off the N2 into the service station. At quite a speed, it collided into the back of a delivery truck that was stationary."

"The paramedics arrived there and found that two occupants from the vehicle had tragically died due to the injuries that they had sustained. The driver managed to escape with minor injuries. He was treated on scene and then later removed from the scene by the SAPS for further investigations," he said.

Meanwhile traffic authorities say they are still expecting a relatively large volume of traffic on major routes , as the Easter weekend kicks off today.

Yesterday afternoon, around 1300 vehicles drove through the Mooi River Toll Plaza every hour.

The N3 Toll Concession's Andy Visser says they expect that a number of holidaymakers have decided to make their getaways a week's break and not just for the long weekend.

"Looking at today's traffic, it's going to be busy again and probably taper off at around lunchtime as everybody reaches the coastline or their holiday destinations," she said.

Visser says they a pleading with motorists to watch their speed and share the roads responsibly.
