ER24 spokesperson, Ross Campbell says it appears a ceiling collapsed on the victims.
He says when paramedics arrived nine people were already receiving treatment on the scene.
"Provincial medics were already on the scene, having assisted with nine patients. Two adults were unfortunately declared dead on the scene."
"ER24 set up a triage area and treated and transported a further nine patients for minor to moderate injuries to various hospitals in the area. Provincial also transported a further two bringing the total injured on scene to 20," he said.
KZN MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta), Sipho Hlomuka and other officials toured the storm-hit areas on Wednesday morning.
"So far the report that we have received is only two people who have lost their lives here at uMshwathi, but we are still going to receive a report because the teams are on site assessing the situation" he said.
