Two killed, 140 hurt in road, rail incidents

Two people have been killed while scores others have been injured in accidents in Durban and Johannesburg.

Umgeni accident

On the M25 a man in his thirties was hit by a car in KwaMashu last night and died on scene. In another pedestrian accident, Crisis Medical says a man was also struck by a car when he tried to cross the M4.

In another Durban crash, 18 people were injured when the mini bus taxi they were travelling in overturned on the N2, near Umgeni Road. Two other people were hurt when their car lost control on the M4 off ramp in the city.

Meanwhile in Johannesburg, Netcare 911 says about 120 people were left injured after the brakes on a train were suddenly stepped on at Emmerdale Station. It's understood the train did not crash nor derail, but the sudden braking caused passengers to fall hard onto the floor while others jumped out of the moving train. They were treated by paramedics before being rushed to hospital.
