Two people have died, while a third person sustained critical injuries, following a head-on collision between a bakkie and a truck on the R617 in Impendle near Boston, Pietermaritzburg, yesterday.

The driver of the bakkie and a passenger in the truck both died in the collission.
The impact of the crash was so severe that one of the cows that had been at the back of the truck, was flung several meters into the air. The animal later succumbed to its injuries.
Details surrounding the accident are still unclear. ER24's Werner Vermaak sayid when emergency services arrived at the scene, the driver of the truck was trapped in the wreckage.
"It took paramedics and firefighters almost three hours to free him from the wreckage. Once he was freed it was found he had suffered multiple fractures ranging from severe to fractures, as well as several other injuries," he said.
"He was stabilised on scene and rushed through to hospital. The cause of the collision is unknown but authorities were on scene to conduct an investigation," Vermaak added.
