Two children have been killed and their pregnant mother left in a serious condition in a crash near Amatikulu on the KZN north coast.

It's understood they were hit by a vehicle on the N2 on Wednesday evening.
IPSS Medical Rescue's Samantha Meyrick said they rushed to the scene.
"It was two young boys, aged 6 and 10, and sadly, they had sustained fatal injuries,
“We had not received information on their mother who was also struck by the vehicle, and she is nine months pregnant.”

She says information surrounding the crash is still being pieced together.
"We do know that they lived nearby, and they were on their way home after being at eShowe Hospital earlier in the day. We did sadly find both boys in the yellow lane along with their mother.
“She was in a serious condition. Unfortunately, it was very traumatic incident. She was not able to talk to us about what had happened, but a lot of community members and her members had come out and were on scene."
Authorities initially suspected it was a hit-and-run. But Meyrick says the driver was found to have stopped further down the road.
"He did remain on scene for SAPS and further investigation."
