The Durban High Court has jailed two young men for the murder of a Mariannhill cop during the July 2021 unrest.
An off-duty constable, Zolani Zuma, had pursued a vehicle laden with looted goods during the riots.
He followed it until Tshelimnyama location where an altercation ensued between the officer and two suspects.
It's understood during the confrontation, the driver of the vehicle, Sibusiso Ndlela, hit Zuma with an iron rod while accomplice, Mzikayifani Ndebele, disarmed the constable.

"One of the accused was sentenced to 10 years direct imprisonment for murder and kidnapping. The other accused was only convicted for attempted murder, and he was sentenced to 4 years to imprisonment."
Ndlela and Ndebele, aged 20 and 21, were arrested at Msinga in February last year.
