Two seamen are receiving treatment in a Durban hospital after contracting malaria.
The men were on a container ship anchored several nautical miles off the coast of Durban.
The National Sea Rescue Institute was called out yesterday to attend to them.
A rescue craft was launched and took a paramedic to the crew. The NSRI's Craig Lambinon says the 22 and 28-year-old men were brought to shore.
"Two men on board the ship were suffering from malaria. One is South African and one is Ukranian. The two men were taken off the ship [and onto an NSRI vessel]. They were in stable conditions, were brought to shore and transported to hospital for further care byNetcare911 paramedics," Lambinon said.
