Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
Two eThekwini Metro Police officers have been gunned down in Hammarsdale, west of Durban.
Management says it appears the two officers were on their way to work on the Durban Beachfront in a private vehicle when shots were fired at them, early Tuesday morning.
Both men died at the scene.
Metro Police spokesperson Parbhoo Sewpersad, who is at the scene, says they're not exactly sure what happened at this stage.
"The scene is active. We at the Metro police are shocked by what we have heard and seen and at this stage.
"It is unknown what the circumstances were. We cannot say whether it was a drive-by shooting.
"The SAPS and members of the Hawks are investigating and will be able to give us more info soon."
