Two Durban looters handed five-year prison sentence

Two men arrested for looting during last year's unrest have begun serving five-year prison sentences.

Sihle Jali and Sifiso Ngcobo were arrested on Inanda Road in Durban in July last year.
Police had responded to reports of a service station being looted by a large crowd.

Officials say officers were pelted with stones, but two of them stood their ground and arrested the duo while the rest fled.
Jali and Ngcobo were convicted of public violence and jailed by the Durban Magistrate's Court.
