Two Durban ‘kidnappers’ to appear in court on Monday

Two people, accused of kidnapping a 24-year-old man in Durban for ransom, are set to line up in court today.

The men were nabbed after the brother of the victim handed over the money they had demanded from him.

 

Police say the man was taken from a parking lot in the CBD.

His kidnappers had arranged to meet his brother on Clairwood's South Coast Road this past weekend to collect the ransom but the meeting point was later changed to Wiggins Road in Mobeni. 

 

The police's Thembeka Mbele says the suspects took the cash and drove away in what's believed to have been an Uber vehicle.

 

They dropped the victim off and police gave chase.

Two occupants of the vehicle, one of which was a foreign national, were arrested with the cash.

 

She added that the investigation continued to the suspect's place of residence where a 9mm pistol, fifteen rounds of ammunition and the suspect’s cellular phones were found and seized.

 

The tracing of other outstanding suspects is continuing.

 

Both men aged 34 and 39 will appear at the Durban Magistrates Court facing kidnapping and extortion charges.
