A pedestrian has been killed after being struck by a vehicle on the M4 near the Virginia Airport in Durban North.
Three other people were hurt in the crash on the southbound carriageway a little earlier. Reports from the scene suggest a car struck the man before colliding with a second vehicle.
Crisis Medical's Kyle van Reenen says the pedestrian died on scene.
"Three occupants from the two vehicles sustained minor to moderate injuries with one of them requiring advanced life support care. The injured patients have been removed from the scene. It's now been handed over to the police services," he said.
Traffic on the M4 was severely affected in both directions.
Meanwhile a man has been killed after a truck overturned on the N3 heading towards Pietermaritzburg just after the Marriannhill Toll Plaza. Netcare911 says a second man is in a critical condition. The cause of the crash is unknown. Traffic on the both the Maritzburg and Durban-bound carriageways has been affected.
