Severe weather conditions in the province have claimed more lives, this time two children from northern KZN.

The Department of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs says the girls were struck by lightning in Msinga yesterday.
Officials say eight-year-old Nomcebo Shabalala and 13-year-old Amahle Sithole had been on their way to school at the time.

The department's Msawakhe Mayisela says they're going to intensify efforts across the province to educate rural communities on the risks of extreme weather conditions.
"We have extracted our disaster management teams in the Umzinyakhe District Municipality to work closely with the family. We are also continuing with our educational campaigns whereby we are trying to educate people about changing weather patterns. We do believe that by doing so, it will help minimise incidents whereby people are losing their lives," he says.
