Two arrested for murder of KZN cop

Police have made a breakthrough in their investigation into the murder of a South Coast cop.

Constable Jairus Govender was gunned down near Scottsburgh Mall in August. 

The 23-year-old, who was off-duty, and his girlfriend were travelling in separate vehicles on the N2 when her car had a puncture. 

He was attacked and robbed while changing the tyre. 

After the two gunmen demanded the couple's phones, a scuffle broke out and Govender was shot twice.

Govender was stationed at Port Shepstone SAPS.

KZN Hawks spokesperson Simphiwe Mhlongo says two suspects were nabbed this week. 

"On Tuesday, 30 April 2024, two accused, Mfaniseni Nombika (30), and Victor Mseleku (40), appeared in the Scottburgh Magistrate Court for the murder of Constable Jarius Joshua Govender (24), who was killed on the N2 freeway near Scottburgh in August last year. Nombika and Mseleku were remanded in custody and the case was postponed to 7 May 2024 for bail application."
