Blessing Sikhakhane was arrested in October after the bodies of 18-year-old Enhle Majola and 24-year-old Sthembile Ngobese were found in his home in Botha's Hill, west of Durban.

They had both been shot.

Sikhakhane appeared in the Pinetown Magistrate's Court on Wednesday, where the visible policing officer made another brief appearance.

Sikhakhane previously abandoned his bid for bail, fired his private attorney and succeeded in his application for the magistrate to recuse herself.

The matter was postponed until Wednesday for him to secure new private legal representation.

His new attorney Mandla Luthuli told the court Sikhakhane now intends to apply for bail.

He also wants the hearing to get underway two days before Christmas as the investigating officer will be going on leave soon.

State Prosecutor Nomcebo Xulu said the defence's request may not be possible as they are still in the process of trying to find an outside magistrate to oversee the case.

The magistrate ruled that the bail application would be heard in January next year.
