The Desmond and Leah Tutu Legacy Foundation issued a statement this morning, adding the Arch ''is in good spirits and not in any pain''.

''Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu is on a new course of intensive antibiotic treatment that will continue for two weeks in hospital. He is in good spirits and not in any pain. The Archbishop and his family were deeply appreciative of the prayers and good wishes of so many, his daughter, the Reverend Canon Mpho Tutu said.

His daughter says while her father is very grateful to the media for its concern, he has humbly asked journalists not to anticipate daily updates on his condition so that he could rest peacefully while receiving treatment.

''Any change in his condition would be communicated by the Desmond and Leah Tutu Legacy Foundation,'' the statement read.

The 83-year-old was re-admitted earlier this week to a hospital in Cape Town.
