This is to allow the mourners who wish to pay a personal tribute to the Arch enough time to file past the coffin at the cathedral.

In a statement, the office of the Anglican Archbishop of Cape Town says strict covid-19 protocols will apply when people come for viewing from this hour till 5pm today and tomorrow.

According to the Archbishop Tutu IP Trust and the Desmond & Leah Tutu Legacy Foundation, Arch's wishes were that he wanted no lavish spending at his funeral.

Speaking on behalf of the Tutu family at the Memorial service in Cape Town yesterday, Dr Mamphela Ramphele says the family is so grateful for the outpouring of support they are receiving.

"I would like to plead with all of us, not just those who are here but all those who are listening and will be celebrating the archbishop for the rest of the week, that can we dare recommit to live a life that is infused by the values of Ubuntu as the archbishop taught  us."
