Tugela drowning: Delays in search after strong current, crocodile sightings
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
The search for a boy presumed to have drowned in the Tugela river near Newark continues for a second day today.
Police search and rescue crews were called to the river on the north coast yesterday when the boy went missing.
IPSS spokesperson, Paul Herbst says the child, who had been with friends at the time, is thought to have gotten into difficulty in the water due to the flow of the river.

"Unfortunately, closer to the bank he felt that his friend left him - and it was the last time the kid was seen. Police search and rescue team, together with IPSS, arrived on scene to find that the river was flowing at a strong rate. Police divers were unable to enter the water due to that and the sighting of crocodiles.
"The team went further down to the mouth of the river and walked up to the site, searching from bank to bank," he said.
