Tshwane township remains on lock-down

Atteridgeville in Tshwane remains on lock-down this afternoon.
Residents of the township west of Pretoria as well as in Mamelodi in the east and Hammanskraal north of the capital city went on the rampage last night following the announcement that Thoko Didiza is the ANC's mayoral candidate for the metro.
At least 20 buses were torched last night affecting public transport in the city this morning.
This woman who lives Atteridgeville says she was unable to leave the area for work this morning.
"All the entrances are closed, I'm trying to go to the shops. I'm driving around and all the shopping centres are closed down and there are police everywhere," she said.
The police's Console Tleane says while Atteridgeville remains a problem, riots in Mamelodi have been contained while Hammanskraal is calm.
"The difficulty that we are having is that the security forces are still trying to penetrate that area. What is critical is to correct earlier information that we gave that suggested that a school next to Kalafong Hospital might have been on fire. Fortunately enough, that information has come out negative," he said.
