Tshwane mayor meets with Atteridgeville residents
Updated | By Jacaranda FM News
Tshwane Mayor Kgosientso Ramokgopa is currently meeting with residents in Atteridgeville west of Pretoria behind closed doors in a bid to bring an end protests that started last night over the metro's ANC mayoral candidate.
There have been riots in several other townships including Mamelodi, Hamanskraal and Ga-Rankuwa following the announcement by Luthuli House that Durban-born Thoko Didiza, who is currently a chairperson in Parliament, is their preferred candidate for mayor.
Meanwhile, DA mayoral candidate for Tshwane Solly Msimang, who is also from Atteridgeville, says what has been happening is unacceptable.
"I'm very disappointed to see that thuggery and lawlessness is now the order of the day here which shouldn't be allowed. I'm continuing to say that people should not be held ransom by the ANC. If people have a problem with the ANC then branches of the party should take their issues to Luthuli House and not hold people to ransom," he said.
