Trucker accused of fuel theft to remain behind bars

A truck driver who is suspected of stealing fuel over the last five years has been denied bail.

It's also been confirmed that the man is a driver for eThekwini Municipality's Water Department.
He appeared in the Umbumbulu Magistrates Court in the south of Durban on Tuesday.

eThekwini metro police spokesperson Boysie Zungu says the suspect had been under investigation for a week before his arrest.
"The Joint Infrastructure Task Team ( Durban Metro Police Service and South African Police Service) were tasked to assist in investigating the allegations of a municipality diesel theft by one of the truck drivers."
