Truck driver dies in crash, brake failure suspected
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
The Road Traffic Inspectorate in KZN says they suspect brake failure to have been the cause of a crash that claimed the life of a truck driver on the N3 highway in Pietermaritzburg on Saturday.
The driver was killed after crashing through a concrete barrier, and into a residential area - narrowly missing a children's play area.
RTI Spokesperson Zinhle Mngomezulu says the incident took place near Peter Brown Drive.

"Our officers saw the truck driving in a high speed, proceeding down towards Peter Brown. It collided onto the concrete that is placed on the centre median and we believe he had a brake failure," says Mngomezulu.
Mngomezulu says the driver died at the scene.
"He lost control and overturned just off the road, partially on the private property. He died on the scene. One count of culpable homicide is being investigated."
