Tropical storm Dineo no longer a threat to KZN

Emergency teams had been put on high alert in KZN's north eastern parts after warnings that Dineo, which had pummelled Mozambique's coastline, was heading our way.

Wayne Venter from SAWS says the storm is now heading towards the southern parts of Zimbabwe. 

"We expect that to weaken even further. As it moves into Botswana, it will cause some good rainfall especially over those two countries," he said.

Meanwhile, in the northern parts of the province - rains are still ongoing in Jozini which is about an hour away from Sodwana Bay. 

According to SAWS, some areas in northern KZN received rainfall overnight - including River View with 24.8 millilitres, Pongola with 22.6 millilitres, and Vryheid with 25.4 millilitres. There was no rainfall in Sodwana Bay - which came as a relief to residents after surviving severe thunderstorms in January. 

There's a 30% chance of rain with thunder showers and lightning forecasted for that region, including those areas still experiencing rain such as Jozini and Pongola.
