Triple murder accused gets three life sentences

A Durban man who bludgeoned his wife and two teenage children to death with a 'gada' - has been handed three life sentences by the Durban High Court.
The murders happened three years ago in the Chatsworth area, south of Durban.
Rajen Kandasamy has been slapped with a life sentence for each of the family members he killed on the night of the 29th of December, 2013.

He attacked his 40-year-old wife Mala with the traditional wooden mace as she lay in bed - shortly after the pair got back to their Moorton home from a night out with friends.
His two children - 17-year-old Megandren and 18-year-old Melarisa - were also beaten to death after rushing to the bedroom to investigate.
During his trial, Rajen claimed robbers had broken into their house and killed his family - but evidence presented in court proved otherwise.

It also came out in court that the couple had been having marital problems.
In its arguments for aggravation of sentence, the state said Rajen had shown no remorse for what he had done.
His life sentences will run concurrently.
