The department says it's been left disturbed by a video clip, shared online, which shows a group of pupils in full uniform attacking a fellow schoolgirl.
MEC Kwazi Mshengu's condemned the incident that took place outside Ilanga High last week.
Spokesperson Kwazi Mthethwa's reiterated their zero tolerance of all forms of harassment and bullying.
"Out attitude towards school bullying is that we do not tolerate it. The perpetrators will definitely face the toughest consequences.
"This is completely unacceptable and no learner should ever be subjected to such humiliation and suffering at the hands of another.
"As the Department of Education in KwaZulu-Natal we have prioritized this matter and it is receiving our urgent attention."
