Transporting children on bakkies now illegal

Motorists who transport children on the back of bakkies will feel the mighty hand of the law.
The new law aimed at keeping children safer on our roads comes into effect today.
"It comes operationally and nationally across South Africa," he said.
National Public Transport Regulator's John Motsasing says anyone caught breaking this law will be punished with immediate fines.

"Provinces have the discretion to describe whatever penalties they want to impose as a fine for transporting children at the back of a bakkie," he said.
Motsasing says the Transport Department will be reviewing other laws - due to the countrywide increase in the number of road crashes.
