Transnet has got nothing to do with state capture: CEO
Transnet CEO Siyabonga Gama is adamant that the state-owned entity has been dragged into a war not of its own doing.
In the state of capture report, former Public Protector Thuli Madonsela cited media reports that alleged Gupta associate Salim Essa was to profit from lucrative Transnet contracts.
Gama says contracts with Trillion Capital and Regiments associated with Essa have been terminated and the company plans to take legal action.
"We have a fraud risk assessment that we do inside Transnet. We are not aware that Salim is either blacklisted or a convicted individual, so there is nothing that says to us that Salim cannot do business with Transnet," says Gama.
Gama says he is confident that the commission of inquiry to be instituted following release of state of capture report will clear Transnet of any wrongdoing.
"We have reviewed our own internal processes and we are satisfied that we are getting good value for everything that we do within in the entity. We are cooperating with the Public Protector and we have made available what they have asked us to," says Gama.
