The N3 highway was fairly busy yesterday as holiday-makers headed out of KZN through the Mooi Rover Toll Plaza. The Tugela Plaza also on the N3 experienced high traffic volumes as one lane was closed at Van Reenan's Pass.

The N3 Toll Concession's Andy Visser is urging motorists to continue exercising caution on the roads.

"We are anticipating traffic volumes to pick up again today probably around the same time as experienced yesterday mid-morning but certainly not at the same levels as experienced yesterday. We are anticipating fairly heavy traffic volumes again today,"she said.

Meanwhile, Durban Tourism says the ten-day holiday saw 200 000 visitors heading into the city.

Spokesperson Philip Sithole says weekend events, including Durban Picnic Day, were a contributing factor.

"The estimated figure was around R500-million in economic spend. The fact that when people came down here we wanted to make sure that people are not bored when they are here.

"They must come here and be entertained and when they leave, they must leave with a positive spirit to say that they will come back again," he said.
