He says they've been in talks with iLembe officials about the disruptions - since frustrated residents staged a protest last week.

Community members say the outages began after the recent heavy storm - which also left roads in the area badly damaged.

Traditional leaders have now stepped in to try to restore calm, amid rumours that more demonstrations have been planned for election day.

Chili says they've taken residents' grievances to the district mayor and officials, who deal with water supply issues.

"According to iLembe, they are saying the infrastructure on the ground is failing to give people water because of the number of people in Ndwedwe is more than what was planned. What will assist the community is revamping the reservoir."
