Tourism 'on a recovery trajectory', dept not aware of cancellations
Updated | By Sandile Bhengu
Tourism authorities say they aren't aware of any cancellations by international tourists following the murder of a German national in Mpumalanga province.
Seventy-five-year-old Schnarr Joerg was gunned down on Monday after armed hijackers accosted him, his wife and two other tourists near White River.

The incident has led to concerns over the possible impact it could have on tourism, including in KZN, where the sector employs a large number of people.
The department's Mpumzi Zuzile says the shooting is viewed as an unfortunate incident rather than a pattern where tourists are targeted by criminals.
"We haven't received information as yet, but there has been no major cancellation that's from the German tourists from two days ago."

"So we haven't seen the impact this might from the German tourists. Germany is the third country that brings tourists to the country, followed after the UK and the USA. We are monitoring the situation, but thus far tourism is on a recovery trajectory."
