The travel show, regarded as one of the top tourism marketing events in Africa, gets underway at the Durban ICC.

CEO, Ndabo Khoza has emphasized the province's contribution to SA's performance as a tourist destination.

"Please remember that KZN is part of South Africa. We want to feature very prominently in the itineraries so that at the end of the day when we get a report about how the Indaba was - we talk less about the three days and  more about the rest of the 362 days," he said.

eThekwini mayor, Zandile Gumede says Durban has teamed-up with global brands to improve the local tourism sector.

She says the partnerships have helped the municipality implement radical economic transformation, especially in township areas.

"As the city of Durban, we have decided that we will start by focusing on our townships to expose these areas to global markets," she said.

President Jacob Zuma is due to officially open the Indaba.
