Tour Durban route changes following M19 protest

Protest action on the M19 freeway near Reservoir Hills earlier today has forced organisers of the aQuelle Tour Durban, presented by the Bridge Fund Managers, to alter the route of the 100km race.

The longer event will now be raced over two laps of the Moses Mabhida Stadium to Umdloti bridge circuit. The race distance has been altered down to about 90km.

 All three events will still be staged on Sunday, 28 April 2019 – but there have been changes to the starting times.

 Organisers say the decision to remove the sections of the route through the areas affected by the protest was done to ensure the safety of all cyclists.

6:25am 100km Vet Men 50-35 and 60+
6:30am 100km Elite Women, all Veteran Women, Tandem and Handcyclists and 145km Cows
7:45am 100km Under 17 Boys and A Batch
7:50am 100km B Batch
7:55am 100km C Batch
8:00am 100km D Batch
8:05am 100km E Batch

9:45am 55km Cyclocross CW
9:50am 55km Cyclocross CX

9:55am 45km Handcyslists, Tandem and A Batch and Charity
10:00am 45km B Batch
10:05am 45km c and D Batch

Organisers said during the week that they expect some R100-million to be injected into the local economy as a direct result of the event.
