KwaZulu-Natal
has again turned to National Treasury for disaster financial assistance as
rebuilding efforts continue following the recent floods in the province

Premier Sihle Zikalala said on Sunday the provincial government has gone beyond the initial R1 billion set aside for flood relief.
"This brings the total applied to R17.8 billion for KZN sector departments and municipal damage. The province has recieved acknowledgement to this effect,” he told a media briefing.
Zikalala said the April flood damage stands at a cost of R25 billion.
Local government's also applied for R1 billion in short-term humanitarian relief.
"While treasury has indicated that short-term immediate humanitarian relief is available it is important to clarify that these funds are earmarked for disasters that may occur in the whole country during the 2022/23 financial year.
