Thought to be ranked second to the Grammys, the Billboard Music Awards took place last night at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Some notable winners include Celine Dion and Britney Spears who were awarded the Icon Award and Millennium Award respectively.

Dion had made her return to the stage since the death of her husband Rene Angelil in January.

While, Madonna was the last of a line of artists who paid tribute to Prince, including Wiz Khalifa, Seal and The Weeknd.

Here's some of our favourite picks.

Described as a highlight, Celine Dion, who received the Billboard Icon Award honoring her 30-year career, sang Queen's "The Show Must Go On" in tribute to her late husband. Tearfully, she received the prize from her first-born son, Rene-Charles.

Music legends, Madonna and Stevie Wonder paid tribute to the late pop star, Prince with their own rendition of Purple Rain.

Canadian singer and songwriter, The Weeknd, also paid tribute to Prince as he picked up his Top Hot 100 Artist prize at the Billboard Music Awards. The R&B star dominated last night's ceremony by taking eight prizes.

Britney Spears' explosive medley of her greatest hits had kicked off the show. Hits such as Womaniser, I love Rock 'n' Roll and Toxic were included in the performance.

British singer, Adele won five trophies, among them the prestigious awards for top Artist, top Female Artist and Top-selling Song. She also debuted the music video for Send My Love.
