Too early to ease water restrictions: COGTA
Updated | By Anelisa Kubheka
Despite heavy rains for the past two weeks, the Department of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs says it would be premature to ease water restrictions.
The provincial government says it will consider KZN as being in a drought until all dams are fully replenished.
According to the department, the recent rains do not warrant the relaxation of water restrictions by municipalities in the province.

It says the rainfall has been uneven and has not fallen in some areas north of the province hardest hit by the drought, including the uMkhanyakude District.
The department has urged municipalities to stick to their water restrictions as it will take weeks of uninterrupted rainfall for critical dam levels to replenish.
Residents are urged to continue using water sparingly as the department monitors the drought situation and plans ahead.
