Toll from KZN floods rises to 448

Five more people have been confirmed to have lost their lives as a result of the KZN floods.

It takes the death toll to 448.


It comes as recovery efforts are continuing in earnest with the weather having cleared up in province.


Local teams are being given a hand by search and rescue crews who've arrived from other provinces.


Search and rescue members spoke to Newswatch at Virginia Airport in Durban North on Tuesday before making their way to several disaster areas in and around the city.

Many are still recovering from last week’s mayhem, saying it was a struggle to access certain areas. 


The SANDF was also at the airport, with the army sending 10 000 troops in a drive called Operation Chariot.


Dr Imtiaz Sooliman, from Gift of the Givers, said they fear that the amount of missing people may continue to rise as many people are still contact with the organisation as they search for their loved ones.
