Toll-free call centre for abuse victims launched
Updated | By Sandile Zikhali
A 24-hour gender-based violence call centre has today been launched in KwaZulu-Natal.
The toll-free centre will be manned by social workers - who will work with police in assisting victims of abuse.
KZN Social Development MEC Weziwe Thusi says the location of those needing help will be picked up by a geo-locator in case of emergency.
"We are going to have a geo-locator where we are going to locate where the caller is calling from. This is so that when you need help - it will go directly. We also have skype because some of the callers are disabled - they use sign language. Social workers are going to betrained on sign language so that they are able to communicate with the people with disabilities."
