Tighter security planned for KZN schools
Updated | By Nomfundo Ngcobo
KZN Education is working on a plan to boost security at schools.

MEC Kwazi Mshengu says schools are becoming soft targets for criminals. Recently, teachers were robbed of their belongings at Windy Heights Primary School in Malagazi, near Isipingo.
The school was forced to close early this week after Grade R pupils witnessed the teachers being robbed at gunpoint. KZN Education spokesperson Muzi Mahlambi says school management met with officials from the department.
The school’s reopened with additional security.
"Criminals would walk into our schools, rob educators of their valuables and simply walk back out the streets without anyone doing anything", Mahlambi said.
"We are calling on our communities to protect our schools because our schools are located within our communities. The targeting of our schools is becoming rife and it's a worry to us", he said.
