Three suspects nabbed in Durban police shootout
Updated | By Jarryd Subroyen
Three men have been arrested following a high-speed chase and shootout with police north of Durban.
SAPS spokesperson, Thulani Zwane says authorities were alerted to a house robbery in the Sunningdale area earlier.
He says police and private security officers quickly located the getaway vehicle and gave chase along the old North Coast Road.
"As a result, the suspects abandoned their vehicle and started to shoot towards the members. The members retaliated and one suspect was shot, wounded and taken to hospital for treatment. The other two suspects were also arrested and charged accordingly," he says.
Zwane says household items and three unlicensed firearms were recovered from the vehicle.

"The members found a crowbar as well as other items suspected to be stolen during a house robbery. The vehicle used by the suspects was also stolen from the Eastern Cape. These three suspects will be charged for the possession of unlicensed firearm, ammunition as well as possession of property suspected to be stolen," he says.
Two of the suspects will appear in the Durban Magistrate's Court tomorrow. The third will line up in the dock after being discharged from hospital.
