Three men have been sentenced in a mass murder case in Pietermaritzburg.

Twelve people were killed after the home they were in was set on fire last year.
The Pietermaritzburg High Court sentenced Mandisa Ngcobo, Mthobisi Makhathini and Sanele Phetha to 12 terms of life imprisonment.

Ngcobo, who is believed to be a drug dealer and his accomplices attacked the victims because he believed they were putting him out of business.
KZN NPA spokesperson, Natasha Ramkisson-Kara says their application for leave to appeal their sentence was dismissed.
"They were served an effective term of life imprisonment. The NPA welcomes this finalisation of this matter, and we hope that sentences of this nature will have the necessary deterrent effect on perpetrators."
