Three more firefighters killed in northern KZN

Three more firefighters have lost their lives after battling out-of-control veld fires in KZN.

A team was trying to contain an inferno in Umgungundlovu yesterday when they encountered problems.
Paramedics who were called to treat them in Mpophomeni area say three firefighters were declared dead on the scene.
Five others were injured.
Later however, three more team members died in hospital, bringing the number of those killed to six.
KZN Cooperative Governance MEC Thulasizwe Buthelezi's called for a state of disaster to be declared in KZN.

Raging wildfires have recently swept through several parts of the province, claiming the lives of seven people, including a two-year-old boy.
The King Cetshwayo, Ilembe, uThukela, uMgungundlovu and Zululand districts are among those affected.
The department's Senzo Mzila says the MEC has sent messages of support to the firefighters' families.
“He's also extended well wishes for those in hospital for them to get better."
