Three life terms for KZN rapist applauded

A women empowerment group has described the sentence handed down to a serial rapist in Durban, as a ray of hope for victims seeking justice.
29-year-old Sello November was given three life terms and 305 years in prison. He was convicted on 13 counts of rape, robbery and murder on Tuesday. After terrorising women in KwaMashu and Avoca Hills for three years his crime spree continued in Gauteng.
He would attack women and school children walking early in the morning. His youngest victims were aged 12.
November will also stand trial in Gauteng. He faces three charges of rape, robbery and murder.
Pamela Padayachee is with 1WomanPact. She says sentences like these empower victims of rape and abuse to speak out.
"Even after women get raped they are afraid to go to the police station because of the way they are treated. They are scared to even speak about their ordeal", she said.
"When such sentences take place it empowers women a bit more and says the justice system is on the victim's side", Padayachee said.
