Three Durban officers fired, others face disciplinary action

The South African Police Service says three of its members in KZN have been dismissed, following protest action outside the police head office in Durban.

National spokesperson, Vishnu Naidoo has also confirmed that 21 officers will face disciplinary action at provincial level and 20 will face disciplinary action at their units at national level.
The group marched to the head office demanding to see the acting police commissioner over what they believe are unfair promotions.
He says members are likely to face charges relating to the Gatherings Act and the Road Traffic act SAPS Disciplinary regulations and municipal bylaws.
"Management is seriously considering serious charges against these members. Members of the SA Police Service are not allowed to protest or demonstrate - especially when they are on duty. In this case, some of the members were also on duty when they embarked on this protest action," he said.
