Three cops killed in weekend violence

The SAPS top brass is
calling on the public to help them end attacks on police and killings.
Three officers were killed and five injured in separate incidents in KZN, Gauteng and Mpumalanga provinces this weekend.
In KZN, a flying squad sergeant was shot and killed on the N2 between Mtubatuba and Empangeni on Sunday morning.
Officers were tracking a suspicious vehicle. Police say as they approached it, the occupants opened fire. The 45-year-old officer was killed and his colleague wounded.
Three suspects were also killed.

Two fled the scene but have been arrested.
"With the management of the SAPS continuously ensuring adherence and compliance to the implementation to police safety strategy," says national police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe.
"Which seeks to enhance the safety officers on and off duty the need for increased cooperation between the police and communities cannot be overemphasised.
"Communities continue to play a pivotal role in sharing vital information by acting as the eyes and ears of our police officers in detecting criminal elements in society."
