Police managed to arrest three suspects after a shootout left one alleged robber hurt.

The suspects forced open the gates to a property in Railway Road at about midday and parked their vehicle in the property.

They began loading items from the house into the vehicle.

Community members who noticed the suspicious looking vehicle reported the incident as they knew the homeowner was away at the time.

Officers responded and witnessed the robbery in progress.

Police say the suspects then opened fire and tried to flee the scene.

Police returned fire and arrested the three suspects. They face charges of house robbery and attempted murder.

The KZN Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni has praised the police for their swift action.

"I also highly praised the community members who took initiative and called the police.

"Once again, we are warning the criminals that police will not hesitate to defend themselves when they are shot at by the heartless criminals,” she said.
