Thieves strip KZN game reserve of fence, repairs in the millions
Updated | By Nothando Mkhize
A game reserve in Utrecht in northern KZN has been left exposed because of criminal behaviour.
The Balele Game Park has been stripped of its fence and poles along the R34.
The park in eMadlangeni Municipality covers an area of 2 500 hectares.
It says replacing the fence and fixing the damage will cost a lot of money.
The reserve’s conservation officer, Kerotse Mosebetsi says they’re planning on improving security.

" The actual cost of the fence that's been stolen could be around R4.5 million. This particular management area when we are having a problem is open access."
"We are doing patrols, we are looking at using remote cameras. But then again the challenge with remote cameras is someone can pick it up and leave with it."
